My name is Nighat Naseer, and I am an Advocate by profession.
I have been living with a physical disability since the age of one, when polio permanently affected my right leg. Although this disability became part of my identity, the emotional challenges were far greater during my early years.
When I was in matriculation, I went through a very difficult phase in life. I felt isolated, hopeless, and believed that I was the only person with a disability facing such struggles. At that time, I experienced severe emotional distress and even had suicidal thoughts. However, life took a positive turn when I randomly came into contact with the Pakistan Disabled Foundation (PDF). This connection proved to be a turning point in my life.
Under the guidance and mentorship of Sir Shahid Memon, Chairman of Pakistan Disabled Foundation, I received encouragement, direction, and the confidence to move forward. PDF helped me realize my self-worth and showed me that disability is not inability. Through this platform, I gained exposure, leadership skills, and a renewed purpose in life.
In 2015, I represented Pakistan as part of the PDF delegation in Turkey, where I participated in an International Cooking Competition. Competing on an international platform was a life-changing experience, and our team achieved the Runners-Up position, which further strengthened my confidence and belief in my abilities.
I went on to complete my MSc in Mathematics and later my LLB, and served as a Lecturer at Dadabhoy Institute of Higher Education for six years. Currently, I am pursuing my legal profession and have been actively working for Persons with Disabilities for over twenty years.
I am married and a mother to a daughter. Alongside my professional responsibilities, I remain deeply involved in my daughter’s education and overall growth, while continuing my mission of empowerment, advocacy, and inclusion for persons with disabilities.
