Brief Report of Pakistan Disabled Foundation 2011-12
By the Grace of Almighty Allah and valuable support of well-wisher like your good self PDF has been actively engaged through out the year by providing and arranging advocacy, training, education, rehabilitation and integrated program to achieve its targeted goals of socio economic status for disabled community as a whole.
Together with regular programs & services to support disabled students, widows, deserving disabled persons & their depending families by providing them scholarship for education, monthly aid, medical, small loans, special equipment for the education and daily living for disabled persons like cassettes, cassette recorders, mobility canes, wheel chairs, hearing aid, self threading needles, embossed measuring tapes, including winter bedding to 1500 beneficiaries.
PDF has provided support for 12 wedding ceremonies of disabled men & women and their children. As usual PDF has provided exclusive support comprising of cloths, ration & cash to 2900 beneficiaries including their dependents, during the Ramzan and whole of the year.
More than 225 Braille writing frames along with guide books, 20 Arithmetic slates, 5 Braille Holy Quran were provided to the deserving students & trainees from whole of Pakistan and specially in India for Muslim Students.100 Braille and Talking Wrist Watches and 250 white canes for Blind were provided free of cost mostly or on subsidized rates as the case might be to the deserving blinds. Likewise, Calculators, Talking Clocks, embossed thermometer for the blind were also given on the same basis. PDF had continued to get transcribed & recorded books in Braille & on cassettes to needy blind teachers, instructors, educators, trainees and students.
To promote and strengthen the organizations and institutions working for the disabled community were provided support in cash and kind during the year to the following organizations: Al-Faisal Markaz PAB, Pakistan Alliance of the blind Faisalabad, Light House School for the Blind Abbottabad, PAB Batagram, PAB Swabi, PAB Jhang, Shama School for the Blind ,PAB Mianwali, PAB Sargodha, PDF Bahawalpur Pakistan Eye Bank Society Dera Ghazi Khan, PAB Naushahro Feroze, PAB Shikarpur, All Special Persons Welfare Association Khairpur, PAB Nawabshah, PAB Sindh, PAB Karachi, PAB Larkana, Balochistan Blind Relief Association., Pakistan Fighting Foundation Blind Islamabad ( one thousand bank cassettes for talking books) Movement for Independence of Disabled (M.I.D) Lahore.
Amongst others the following events and visits to achieve the aims and objectives of PDF were conducted.
PDF started its activities in 2011with a prompt advocacy role through one day seminar after the abolishment of federal ministry of special education in July at Islamabad. Amongst others dignitaries secretary Capital Administration and Development Department and Director General DGSE graced the occasion. Where the demand of PDF for the establishment of National Regulatory Authority on disability issue was demanded again .
Ten days speech Therapy and Circle Time Course was arranged at PDF Quaid-e-Azam Academy to implement the one of the agenda points of PDF. Forty four participants relating to the field from Karachi University and other institutions attended the course. The course was inaugurated by EDO Community KMC while concluding ceremony was graced by Minister of Govt. of Sindh. At the end Certificates were distributed amongst the participants.
Regarding advocacy, training and social integration PDF has arranged various programs including
Youm-e- Badar, Muharram ul Haram, Sirat un Nabi , White Cane Safety Day ,and International Day of Disabled Persons different competition were held and winners were given awards and prizes.
A five members delegation of PDF attended the General Assembly of Disabled Persons International at Durbin South Africa in October 2011.
To attend the different meetings and to pay visits including important meeting on establishment of Global Library on Rights of disabled Persons with the authorities of USA International Council of Disability chairman PDF visited USA in late November 2011.
Upon the invitation of California University a three member’s delegation of PDF participated in International Conference on Technology for Disabled Persons in San Diego California and head several meetings with the manufacturers and authorities of the leading institutions on disability in New York, Boston, Baltimore and Washington etc.
The Handicrafts produced by the disabled children’s of PDF Quaid e Azam Academy received active attention and appreciation of the visitors during the different exhibitions and festivals taken place time to time in the metropolitan of Karachi .
Repairing and renovation work of Academy to facilitate the training and educational services in the PDF Quaid e Azam Academy , was carried out with support of donors and well wishers.
