A summary of the annual activities for your kind information and comprehensive support, 2018-2019
Al-Hamdolillah on behalf of Pakistan Disabled Foundation which is a collective voice of cross disability run by the disabled themselves throughout the country as obvious from our website www.pdf.org.pk on the basis of our firsthand knowledge and experience as the disabled ourselves. We economically and realistically identify the priority based requirement and in accordance with the same, we extend our cooperation, support and coordination by launching following program and services:
Regular support to sister agencies and wedding support.
The Foundation has supported in cash and kind for 23 wedding ceremonies of deserving disabled persons and their children from different part of the country. The following organization and institutions working for the disabled persons were provided support in cash and kind upon their request to strengthen and promote their services, in Sindh : disabled Right Development Jacobabad, Ghotki Disability Forum, Association of Special Persons District Badin, Mazoor Welfare Association of the Blind Jacobabad, Thull Disabled Forum, All Special Persons Welfare Association Khairpur, Sindh Disabled Welfare Organization Khairpur, Hyderabad Welfare Association of the Blind, Karachi Special Persons Association. In KPK: light House Scholl for the Blind Girls Abbottabad, Hayat Disabled Welfare Association Hangu, PDF Malakand. In Punjab: Al-Faisal Markaz Faisalabad, Pakistan Alliance of the Blind Faisalabad, Pakistan Eye Bank Society Dera Ghazi Khan. In Balochistan: All Disabled Organization Kohlu, Baluchistan Blind Relief Association Quetta, AJK/Gilgit, National Special Education Centre Muzaffarabad, AKAB MirpurSpecial Education Centre Gilgit, PAB (Bhawalpur, Nosheroferoz, Nawabshah, Sawabi, Mansehra,Sukkur, Jaferabad, Baluchistan, Hangu, Batagram etc.).
Ration and Clothing program:
The regular monthly support of 80 ration in Karachi are provided to the deserving disabled families costing approx Rs. 200,000/-. As previous years, immediate prior to the Ramazan the PDF arranged ration, clothing and financial support to the deserving disabled persons and their families through out the country with special attention to the remote and less developed areas like Batagram, Kohlu, Hangu, Malakand, DG Khan, Jacobabad, Sawabi and so many many others, worth Rs. 2.4 million covering 700 families of disabled persons comprising of 3650 families members were benefitted this year.
PDF Quaid-E-Azam Academy for Disabled Persons:
In addition to the full time skills training Academy for the disabled children and women, provide every facility including pick and drop cent present free of cost.
Braille Quran Project:
Al-Hamdolillah the printing and distribution of Holy Quran in Braille is increasingly continued during the current year also.
Equipment Program:
It is notable that the Foundation is regularly arranging and providing assistive technology together with educational and daily life equipment including talking calculator, thermometer, watches, BP Apparatus, Glucose Meter, Braille and educational equipment’s for blind, white canes, wheal chairs, tricycles, hearing aids, self threading needles, cricket balls for blind, sewing machines and IT based technology equipment’s etc. mostly free of cost to the individuals and in some cases on subsidize rates even to the institutions and organizations dealing with disabled persons both GOs and NGOs.
On the occasion of International Day of Blind, the participating blind member and institutions from different parts of the country were provided more than thousand white canes along with winter clothing blankets, hats etc.
Advocacy Training Courses, seminars, and IT Projects:
To promote the awareness and knowledge towards the achievements of determined goal of socio economic status for the disabled community as obvious in detail form website.
To grace the International White Cane Safety Day together with third conference on IT as the part of the observance of Two Decades, a comprehensive program was held in Karachi on 15th October. During the program, the representatives of the different Universities and Institutions dealing with the IT for the blind express their views on the importance of the development of Urdu Talking Software which is already under processed.
A National gathering of the Disabled Women and the International Day of Disabled Persons jointly observed on 3rd of December in Islamabad, the participants express the importance of the International Day and development of Urdu Talking Software for the disabled community. By concluding the Two Decades Celebrations 32 dignitaries and dedicated volunteers were awarded Two Decades shield of Honor and issued Two Decades Observance Souvenir.
The International Braille Day to grace the Birth Anniversary of Louis Braille the Inventor of Braille System of the Blind. The Braille Transcription Course at Karachi was participated by University Graduates from Department of Special Education University of Karachi together with participants from different institutions of the blind.
In continuation of annual training program of disabled youth a three days All Sindh Disabled Youth Seminar with the support of Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs Sindh at Sukkur, was organized in IBA University Sukkur from 17th to 19th February 2019.
Al-Hamdolillah, only this year 8 training courses on software for the blind mostly arranged in different leading Universities of the countries. BUITEM Quetta NED Karachi, COMSATS Islamabad, UMT Lahore and Greenwich Karachi and other educational institutions.
Annual programs of Istaqbal-e-Ramazan, Yomay Shuhda-e-Badar, Seeratun Nabi, Allama Iqbal Day and Pakistan Day was observed to highlight the religious and moral values as guide lines to availe the spiritual and otherwise benefit of Ramazan Ul Mubarak with the backgroung of Pakistan Movement and requirement of the development of Pakistan as the responsible citizen by disabled community as well, were held and participated largely by the disabled themselves.
To facilitate the institutions regarding the use and subsequent problems of the Braille Embossers PDF arranged three forum meetings with the representatives of the institutions, which was followed by the discussion with the Swedish Authority for training and repairman services.
Furthermore, another activity towards the higher education few meetings together with representatives of US Full Bright Scholarship together with disabled youth and educators regarding the opportunity of US full Bright Scholarship were successfully arranged as disabled participants shown keen interests also appreciated by the presenters from the US Full Bright Program.
